Crap car, crap business

Nigerians are very fond of their cars. At least once a week, but more often every day, I see my neighbours washing and polishing their cars. Although the Nigerians' driving style provides many cars with scratches and dents, even if your car is a little bit dusty, you ain't no good car keeper. And even worse, you ain't no good business partner. Yes, your business skills will be judged on your car. Size does matter.

Also the taxi drivers take care of their cars very well. Usually they are fine, and in Abuja they are green. It's the cars that were fashion in the Netherlands and Germany a little less than ten years ago. But today I had a ride in a car that looked rather similar to the ones in 'Achteruit rijden' (driving backwards), which is part of a Dutch TV programme called 'Te land, ter zee en in de lucht'. (I admit, the one in the picture is a little bit exagerated.) But hey, don't judge him on that. His audio system was excellent, and the seatbelt was still functioning.

But watch 'Bumper 2 bumper' by Wande Coale (at least, the first part) and see if he's a good business guy.
