Today we had a lovely trip through the Bonny wet forest or, swamp. Miriam runs an organization that operates a nature reserve, the only one on Bonny island. The name of the nature park is Finima and it is about 1000 hectare. It is land bought by LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) to compensate for the environmental damage as a corporate responsibility. It was really interesting and beautiful, and..wet. They build a wooden bridge through the entire park, otherwise you could never walk across this swamp. Because of the enormous humidity the wood was very slippery. The water is over a meter deep with thick bush and plants. Lots of snakes, birds, crocodiles and spiders live here. Four rangers accompanied us on this trip, to make sure nothing would happen to us and to give us all sorts of information on trees, birds, reptiles and plants. It was a 3 hour hike, through the wet forest, along the oil pipelines, to the beach and back. The beach was also quite interesting because of some lost items. But see for yourselves. And for the right ambiance, play the following sound while watching the photos.
