The girls are back in town!

This morning... a cloud of cheerful laughter filled the restaurant for breakfast. Yeah, the girls are back in town and ready for action!

During the training the girls learn how to operate the camera, sound, do the interviews and directing. In the field, while going to the different communities, they fulfil all these tasks. But we suspected that all of them already have their preferences. So, why not providing them with the opportunity to grow into the role they like most.

We split the group and gave them a new assignment: make a short item (5-8 min) about what is it like to become an adult in Nigeria. When developing the training programme, we came across Metropolis and their invitation to become a reporter for them, guidelines included. Metropolis is the global media project by the Dutch public service broadcaster VPRO and HIVOS that aims to show our world from inside out. They work with professional local filmmakers and TV journalists all over the world, but Nigeria is not part of the network yet... Anyway, 'becoming an adult' is one of their themes and we thought, why not try guiding them to the level of being a reporter for Metropolis?

They started with making a short script and to work that out into a storyboard. After lunch the girls got started with filming. One group already found some of their interviewees right outside our venue. Another group went to the entrance of a big park and moved to a busy street with one of the hills of Abuja on the background.
