We have reached the end of the first part of the video workshops. Today the participants are off to their communities to get the filming going. Congratulation girls, you all worked very hard to come up with a script.

The right to education, right to health, right to political and public participation, right to bodily integrity... and more. All these universal rights are not taken for granted in Nigeria (and perhaps that is universal as well). Although these human rights apply to everybody, in practice they might mean different things for men and women.

In between learning traditional dances of communities in the Niger Delta and teaching some of them for example the 'quick step', the participants were sweating to get the overall research findings into proper and detailed scripts for their movies.

The introduction of the 'problem tree' method worked very well to give them a focus on the causes and effects of the problem they are interested in. But to translate all this information into visual elements… That's something new and different.

Anyway, for the next two weeks they can exercise and come back with their first footage. Then we've got another week of training before they go back for some more fieldwork.
